So there's a wire that goes across the bottom of my hood. It's green with a yellow stripe. There is a blue plastic fitting on one end and the other drops down and connects to the main wiring harness near the brake booster. Well, I wanted to know what it was so i touched it yesterday and it literally broke off from the wire right inside the plastic housing. the connection inside the fitting that accepts (whatever goes in there) is super oxidized and unusable anyway but maybe next time i go junkyarding i can pick something up. Seems like an odd housing to hold a light. Any guesses what it is?
Here's a pic. You can see it running along the bottom of the hood. I put the blue connector on the plastic casing on the motor for reference.
OK. so even if I got a new wire or plastic connection I'd still need to find this lamp extension as well? seem like I should just tape it off for now and if I ever come across something then go for it.
Not Necessarily Okie. The underhood lights came on trucks with the Light Group option,or underhood toolbox.Alot of these lights still work, others don't.These are popular options, and when they appear in a junkyard, people grab them up.They are hard to find unless you are lucky to stumble across a truck that has just been released into the yard and still has the light.
what year models were these lights in? 80-86 only?
Yes.I think the newer trucks have underhood lights, but I don't think they are the retractable kind like ours. These lights came on F-Series and Broncos.I heard somewhere they're often found on Broncos.
I've had one of those retractable light units in my truck toolbox for years. I guess I oughta get around to installing sometime.....
I like the fact that the cord is long enough to reach the rear wheel area, and the light has a magnetic base. Sure would be handy, if a tire ever needs changed in the dark.....
Not sure if the long wire is still in the box or not. Originally, I had grabbed both.
Here is a picture of the underhood lamp for refference.
Found on 1980-1986 F-series and Bronco with either the Courtesy Lamp Group, or the Underhood Toolbox. More comon on Broncos because they were better optioned as a rule etc...

Could someone please do me a favor? I'm going to HD after work tonight and I forgot to get the diameter of the A/C line that has that foam wrap around it. You can see it in the above picture. It's the line right under the hood on the firewall that has the cracked rubber look all around it. I suspect it's 3/4" but would REALLY appreciate if someone could confirm. Thanks.
Hmmm, I probably should have created a new thread instead of bumping this one since the only relevant question relates to the picture but here goes again:
