I am in the middle of rebuilding a E40D trans and I cant figure out where a large needle bearing goes or came from. Its 3-3/8 inches O.D. X 2-1/2 inches I.D.
I was planning on having the trans all back together today but I cant figure out where that needle bearing goes. I took the trans a part three times and still cant figure out where it goes!
Help!
I dont have a picture but its just a large needle bearing. It looks like the rest of the needle bearings just larger. I think it's the only large needle bearing. I have the ATSG repair manual but it doesnt tell you the size of the needle bearings.
Big bearings are at the rear ring gear hub to low reverse sprag race, front planet to front ring gear hub, overdrive ring gear hub to center support, park gear to case.
Thanks I'll have to go back one more time and check to find out where it's missing. I got the ATSG book so thanks alot I'll check the out what you said.
Because I only got one Needle bearing left over!
I am in the middel of reassemling my E40D trans and cant figure out where a needle bearing goes.
JK080, Asked for a picture. I dont have a picture but I did make this YouTube video. Bronco Project 3 - YouTube
It is now Sunday morning. I am going over the exploded view again and count every needle bearing on the diagram. Then I will be disassembling the trans one more time hopefully finding where that needle bearing goes!
Some late model E40Ds use this bearing or if has been updated in the past, some early ones have a thrust washer in this location. Did that bearing come from your trans or is it part of a bearing kit.

That bearing is part of my trans.
Now I only tore the trans down to the "forward planetary". I didnt touch the "reverse".
I just studied the exploded view while having breakfest and counted 6 needle bearings. 2-in the forward plantery, 1-in the forward clutch, 2-before the overdrive clutch, 1- by the coast clutch
Your picture looks like what I am looking for. I am going to dissassemble one more time and see! Thanks a whole lot! I'll sleep better when this is a back together!
