well as my previous post says my 5.4 is on the way out so im thinking of diesel now for long camping trips.my one question is.i know 6.0's can be good motors but what years should i try to avoid or be more wary of and what engine mods should i look for to be done to make the early ones less likely to the problems.
i found some 7.3's but im not paying 5,000 over book to own one like the one i looked at yesterday.i want one that i can do most of the work on myself
well sorry to bring the bad news... but the 7.3 is the last one that meets your criteria. I think the value is that much over because of the things you mentioned were important to you are also very important to many others as well
There are some great videos by PowerStrokeHelp.com. Below is 1 of 4 videos comparing the 7.3L vs 6.0L vs 6.4L diesel engines. There are more videos about upgrades for the 6.0L diesel engine.
If you know what your doing. You can pickup a good 6.0 for a steal because people are afraid of its Rep. For 3k you can bulletproof it. And get 500k miles out of it. Mine is still on its factory headbolts and all stock. Other then 4" exhaust and elc coolant. 160k on it and going strong. Just finished a 20hr plow session. Zero troubles with the truck at all.
ok i kindof see through research is dont chip them and alot of the problems dont come up.thanks for the input ill just keep on lookin till i find the right one for me
