Help, I'm trying to pull the distributor on my 88 F150 4.9.
I took out the hold down bolt, but no go -- and Alldata
mentions that there might be a security lock which requires a
Ford special tool. There is a spot under the distributor, which looked like it might have a setscrew of some kind. Looking closer, it'a possible that it might be some kind of small plug. Anyway, whatever it is, it might be the 'security lock'. Has anyone seem this before -- or am I missing something obvious here.
Does the distributor spin now? If not, it's just gummed in place. AFTER MAKING PERMANENT ALIGNMENT MARKS ON THE DIST & BLOCK FOR REINSTALLATION, twist it free and then pull it out.
I've never heard of a "security lock" on a distributor, but try here.
I recently pulled a distributor from an abused 1980 300. I took out the hold down bolt and it took me 30 minutes of prying and twisting to get it out. The oil was so sludged up that the distributor was basically glued in the engine block, just be careful and pull with both hands and dont break the plastic parts.
