Lightning 351W to 408 or 427

I understand the 408 is good as it has a higher redline and hp curve. The 427 is best used for torque applications from what i hear. Would like some feed back as to what would be a good swap. Any links would be great as well.

393, 408 and 427 inch displacements are what happens when you add a stroker kit to a 351 so it's the same engine you're talking about here, and whether it produces more TQ or HP is all about what parts you use to build it, you don't get more of one or the other with each selection by default you could have a torque monster 393 or a screaming high horsepower 427... or the other way around.

I know it is a stroked 351, its all the 302 block. But either way, because of the stroke of the 427 the rods have a tendency to cause problems. And they tend to be more torque friendly than 408's. Was just looking for some opinions. But a 408 N/A can rev higher than a 427 with just a basic build.

Thank you for explaining for someone else but i know the differences . Was just looking for any other pros and cons to either.

No.. it's not, the 302 and 351 do not share blocks.

More displacement will always have more TQ potential but otherwise there are no "tendancies" with any of these combos, sounds like you are just repeating a lot of BS spread about on the web.

What do you mean by shave block? When you go to a 393 i am pretty sure you still have to bore for pistons and crank but i am not sure... kinda put this on the back burner since funds are a bit lacking right now

well not for a 393 but ive been told that the crankshft is so big for a 427 that u have to shave some of the block so it can fit properly to turn freely and such, and i thought you could run regular pistons and didnt need to bore, thouht tat was just for old tired engins needing a rebuild
