alright im new to forums and fords but I got a 78 250 ranger with a 400 in her a few days ago and Im having trouble keepin it running smoothly, doesn't idle very well alot of the emission stuff was worked on, lots of things look jimmy rigged, Some things going to the carb seem to be "off" and I want to know how to either repair the emissions system or get rid of it and have a cleaner look. Preferably the latter. I will put some pics up of some of the nasty areas when the rain stops.
A big help will be buying the factory service manual. Hook everything up according to spec, and then slowly start hiding the wiring/vacuum.
There is a LOT of unnecessary random vacuum/random hookups on these trucks that can be eliminated. However, start with everything factory to get it running right, then slowly go from there
Right on Brad man thanks yeah I've been looking for a manual online hopefully get one soon. I've got some pics on my phone I'll try to get them up on here too. This is my first real truck and its alot of new stuff for me but with the manual and solid advice from the forum I think I can get her looking and running good.
I found a paper-set of the manuals and didn't have to pay very much for them.
You can also get them on CD from places like Rockauto for around $40-50. I hear the Chiltons manuals are better than the Haynes for these trucks, but I haven't used either since I have the factory set!
