installing a/c

How hard is it to install air conditioning in a 1994 f-350 with a 460 e4od? I have a chance to buy a crew cab dually it has no options but it would make a great truck to tow my travel trailer. It is low enough in km's that it should still go for years but a/c is the only option I don't think I can live without.

Not to bad, the area is set up for it. Meaning just replace the one pulley bracket with the pump. Everything is basicly there, Ford doesn't change to many things on their trucks. I would get the complete kit from a distributor instead of a junkyard.
Other than that I tore mine out, I have a sliding rear window that works well enough for me (I live in Tx). I hated the power it was drawing from the engine. When towing it will drop you anywhere from 2-5 mpg from what it would get without it. My minimalist mentality kicked in and off it went.

That covers the engine part, but you need to chance out the heater box in the fire wall to a heater/ac box.. The controls are different also..

It can be done but it will be easier to just keep looking until you find a truck with the options you want..

For the blower box you could always just run a vintage air unit.

They are not cheap products but I've heard good reviews. I know they make universal kits, although I'm not sure how easy it is to hook up with a factory AC compressor.

This would probably be easier than trying to mess with the factory blower box and controls.

I don't think I agree with this. That may be true for you, but you don't know what he is capable of, mechanically, or how hard such trucks are to find where he lives. For me going to factory air would be pretty dang easy.

If you want a quick cheap a/c setup, just find a donor truck or a pick-n-pull truck and get all the stuff under the hood and put it on yours. Then just rig a switch to kick on the compressor. The '94 will already have the correct vents and such on the dash for the heater/vent system and this way you don't have to mess with all the underdash vacuum motors and hoses, unless you really want it to be "factory". In that case, you may want to find an entire dash to swap out.

In the olden days the dashes were different and the no a/c dashes did not have registers, but the later trucks they just found it easier and cheaper to have one dash with the registers in place regardless.

I agree with Jas, the reason I mentioned waiting to find the truck with was because the original post sounded to me like he didn't know too much about the systems..

Sorry if I mislead you with that advice..
