I'm looking at the possibility of getting one of these. Anyone have any experience with these?

It's either one of these or find a oxy torch. They're about the same price. Will it cut dirty metal?

On my phone Joe or I would. They're all the same 50 amp 110/220 cut upto 1" plate. This would be just for my garage. I have a MIG welder and lots o air tools. Just need something like this to top er off.

One of my favorite metalworking tools/toys. I have a Hypertherm that will cut 3/8" clean and sever 1/2". It cuts as clean and precisely as your hand is steady. It cuts stainless, aluminum, and of course mild steel.

If you can, go for it.

I have used the one at work several times, but its a high dollar one,and will cut anything. These are all under 400$. Just questioning the quality and use of consumables. Really want one to build some front n rear bumpers.

Mine was $1000 10 years ago, and it still functions as new. Granted for me it's just a hobby tool, it's still built well and the price of the consumables (i.e. electrodes, nozzles, etc.) are a small price for the ease, convenience, and versatility of these machines.

I suppose it's one of those tools that you get what you pay for. I buy a lot of things from Harbor Freight, but I'm not sure a plasma cutter would be one of those things. My opinion is to spend a few hundred more for a reputable high quality machine you would be happy to use all the time.

Just throwing this out here....if you are making a lot of straight cuts, I would highly suggest a metal cutting circular saw. I picked one up from harbor freight 3 years ago because I was building a set of bumpers for my truck. I got it for like 70 bucks then, and I honestly still use it on a daily basis. Works freaking awesome! I paid I think 20 dollars for a replacement plan so me and my buddy said screw it lets see what we can cut. We cut 1 inch thick steel with it. Blades are only 14 bucks at HF and last a pretty long time if you go easy on it.

7-1/4" Metal Cutting Circular Saw

this is the one I have, my boss just bought one after using mine.

just saying lol

o ya and you do not have to grind or clean up the edges of the metal you cut, it does not make any smoke at all, just little flakes of metal, kinda like saw dust but bigger
