RPMs while towing

So while I wait for my radiator to get replaced, I thought I would ask this question, When towing my fiver (10500lbs) I usually run about 1950 on the tach. Seems a little high, My last truck would run about 1500 or so. It was a 5.9 with a 3.73 rear, This F350 is a 4.10 rear. I get about 10 mpg towing and my Dodge got around 12. I realize this is a bigger truck and all, Does this all seem normal? or should I be getting a little better on the MPG. Truck is stock, no deletes yet.

Thanks.

Lot of variables in the equation. I don't see any problem with your numbers.

At what speed are you getting 1950 revs? On my '05, I'm at 2000 at 70MPH. Or dang close to it.

Tire size and rear end ratio also play a role in determining RPM. I think your numbers are withing normal drivetrain variance.

It is setup for max torgue which If I recall is made at 2K rpms.

I have 3.73 gears and at 65 I am running around 1800 rpms.

It is right where it should be with the 6.4.

I have a 99 PSD F-350 DRW with 4.10 as well. I run just over 2k at 65mph and get 10 mpg pulling a 5th wheel or camper and trailer. I am under the impression I should get better than 10 but it seems a lot of us end up at that mark.

You are fine. I get an average of 12mpg towing at 65mph with 3:73 gears. I plan on swapping out to 4:10 gears fr and rr when I install a Detroit Locker.
