I just drove to Helena (45 miles each way) yesterday at 60-65 mph in my '66 F250 4X4 with a 352, NP435, and 4.56:1 gears. I got exactly 11 mile per gallon.
i drive around 100 miles a week in my 64 it has a rebuilt 292 yblock a c4 tranny and a dana 60 rearend with posi im not sure what the gear raito is on it and i am getting 10-11 mpg i have to fill my truck up twice a week with gas
292 Bored, stroked (318ci), ported, cammed, T5 5 speed, 3.70 rear, about 16.5 in overdrive, 13.5 without overdrive both at 75 - 80 mph.
And I think it will improve with future upgrades. Shooting for 20+
You sure about your numbers tyfly? If you have to fill up just once for 100 miles, that's about 5mpg so twice you're looking at about 2.5. 10-11mpg should get you well over 300miles with 2 fill ups.
I have a 66 F100 with a 240 I-6, and 3 speed on the column. I am not sure of the rear gearing, but I think it is a 3.50. The engine is stock and original. If it has been out it was a long time ago, but it runs strong, and doesn't leak or burn oil. I get 9 all the time. I have heard that switching from the 1 BBL to a 2 or 4BBL might actually help mileage because they are more efficient. I don't know if I will do that. I am trying to stay stock mostly.
64 f250 4x4 t98 4.56 gears, 390, cam, intake, 4bbl, headers, electronic ignition, around 400hp, 2.25in exhaust with 13in glass packs dumped, 35" bfg at's and I get around 10-11mpg on the streets, haven't really driven it much on the highway but next weekend I'm taking it 200 miles and ill check back in and tell you what it gets.
Is your engine rebuilt? I am wondering if my truck is just inefficiant? We are basically running the same truck.
Truthfully, I don't know a ton about my engine. I believe it was rebuilt, but if it was, it was in the early 90's or earlier than that. (my family has had it since early 90's) It's painted all blue, which I think means it was at least painted at some time, or it's not the original motor? For all I know, it could be a 300..I really should check that out...
I did drive it a ton last summer and that's when I clocked the mileage a lot, so I feel pretty confident in the 12-14 mpg quote.
1966 f100 3:25 ls rear 391 motor 4 speed od out of a 80 something f150
Last year I got in on the road and my only hiway trip I got 18/19 mpg on a about 300 miles round trip. Since then found a bad spark plug wire and a vacumn leak. Fixed them but I Haven't checked in for local driving yet. Tom
'65 F-350 dually, worn-out non original 360(?) with 7.5 cylinders, NP435, 4.88 Dana 70 rear, 5831B brownie (.85 OD). Truck weighs just about 7000 lb with me in it... I might be getting as much as 8 mpg mixed city/highway. Since I eliminated the in-cab "suicide bomber" 16 gal tank and put a 30 gal tank on, I can't afford to fill it up
