Insurance Auto Auctions. There were a fair number of people bidding, but being the week before Christmas, I don't know how typical the amount was. I'd say maybe there were somewhere around 8-10, but most dropped out right away. Three of us got into a mild bidding war, but then one dropped out, and and the other guy and myself fought it out. It wasn't bad though, I think he just wanted it for cheap.

Are you sure? I've seen 9 passenger, vinyl seat and vinyl floor Exs with steel wheels, figured they were XLs.

Yep. And some don't even have rear air and yet they call all of them XLTs.

xl is a trim term for expeditions for extra long. Xlt is the base trim for excursions and all excursions are 3 row. Sounds like a bit of confusion in lingo.

XL has been the lower trim levels on ford trucks for many years. Don't know why they didn't use it on the Excursion.

But XL is base for all Super Dutys and yes all Exs are 3 row but that can mean anything from 7 passenger with 2nd row captains to 9 passenger with a front row bench

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. The vehicle is listed @ a gov't auction site. I know the guy that used to drive it so I was trying to make sure it wasn't him that was bidding on it. The auction closes on 3/7/12. The price is just over 6K on the Ex. I was willing to get it @ 5500 but any more and it takes too much outta my Cummins swap budget.

If you just want to swap a cummins into it, you shouldnt have a hard time finding a nice V10 limited for that price.
