for lights on a 99

hey wondering if anyone knows if u can wire the fog lights into the headlight switch or if i need to run them on a seperate switch? i would like to keep the dash clean looking and have them turn on with my marker lights. Got the fog lights for $40 off a rolled kr in fort collins.

You would have to swap out the switch in order to do that.

You could tap into the running light cirucit, but then you would not be able to turn them off.

My wifes Excursion did not come with them. I wired them direct to the battery via a relay, and the relay power comes from the running light trigger and then thru a toggle switch in the dash.

There is no practical way to have the lights switched by the '99 headlight switch assembly.

I tried on my 2000. No dice.

Couldn't a relay be triggered by the hot wire to a light and then have the relay power the fog lights? I guess I don't understand...

On Chelseas X the parking lights trigger the relay that powers the fogs, however I interupt that wire with a toggle so she can turn them on and off.

The lights are powered off the battery directly.

That's the best way to do it.

The "pull-out" part of the switch that works on later years, does not, nor can it be made to, work on 1999's and 2000's.

A separate switch is required to activate the fogs unless hard-wired to the parking or headlight circuits, relay or not.

It is however rather easy to modify the 2001 and up switch to allow the fogs on without the head lights and with the high beams!

But aren't the shapes of them different?

The earlier years panel cut-out is more square-cornered, and the later years more rounded.

IIRC you are correct. Mine is different from my wifes excursion.

Its easy to swap that cover however...

More and more work, just to avoid a toggle switch...LOL

Is there anyone here who could give specific instruction as to how I could wire a 2002 headlight switch (with fog capability) to power my fog lights for my '99? The connectors coming out are different as well as wire color and wire size on some. It's definitely not a plug and play mod. I also am curious as to the use of the VSM in '02 & up trucks and other variances that would potentially make it impossible for someone to add the '02 OEM switch to power fogs.

Has anyone successfully powered their fogs on a 99 -00 using the '02 OEM headlight switch with fog light capability? If not, maybe the '01 OEM headlight switch will work since there was no VSM in that year?

Thanks,
Drake

I don't mind replacing my panel as mine has a crack or two and a few holes I don't want... all I really wanna know is are the connectors the same or would I have to splice in the pigtails?

If you have an '02 headlight switch for fogs then yes, the connectors are all different. I'm curious to know if the '01 headlight switch for fogs have the same connectors as the 99-01 headlight switch w/o fogs? If they are the same then would there be an issue with the GEM module not designed with factory fogs on the truck to allow the '01 headlight/fog switch to fully operate without a hitch?
