Ok fellas I've got to say I'm kinda excited! I have to admit, I've dreamed about my old truck a ton of times... It's been 11 years since I sold my 97 CC PSD 4x4 and quite a while since I talked to ya'll.. I need a little help with a pre purchase inspection. I'm looking at a 97 CC PSD 4x4 auto SRW w 382K C5 axle code 4.10LS and a new tranny @ 238K. First off the body is very nice from what I have seen; I'd say its got maybe 8" of lift w 40's and a shackle reversal front end. I'll attach a pic; maybe one of you even know the truck.. I'm flying down to look at this truck next week and there a number of Ford dealers in the area. I have read the tech thread on buying a 7.3 PSD here but have a couple more question and I'm a marine engineer with good working knowlage; last three trucks were 97PSD, 01PSD, 02Cummins. I was just much younger when I had my first PSD so I'd appreciate the help. I'm thinkin of plugin it in and having diagnostics done at the dealer as well as puttin it up on the lift and gettin under the thing. My biggest concers as with most of you is the tranny. Can I learn anything at the stealership about the health of the slushbox, are there any diagnostics In perticular they can run that would be a benefit? I apologize in advance for this noob-like thread, I'd really like to expidite ny concerns/questions so I thought I'd be as up front as possible. Thanks for your time and consideration. I appreciate it. http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3368/bigf350.jpg Mirror immage of my old truck just more lift and blue interior.. QUESTION: is "the cure" still attainable?

Reason: more info
They should be able to do a pressure test which will tell a lot about the health of the transmission but the other question/concern would be did the truck get re-geared to compensate for the 40" tire's (Hopefully something between 4.56 and 5.88) so that it doesn't work the crap out of the trans. I would check the fluid condition for myself and maybe see what it has for a trans cooler. Other than that just drive it for at least 10 miles to get a real feel for how the truck drives.

That was the first question I asked but the salesman was good for nuthin.. No idea... I'm gunna pull the diff cover at the inspection; I have a sneaky suspition its still 4.10s.. Though, I called back and talked to another salesman who knew a little more about the truck and he said he thought it was regeared; he said it wasnt a slug.. I appreciate your feedback. Upon reading more here I guess I should check the SCA level in the coolant too, right?
RIGHT! I hope it's not a POS, that would be dissapointing....
I'm sure you'll find some little things, but it'll probably be fine. It looks like a good solid truck. Besides, there can't be anything wrong with it that can't be fixed.
