Tires
So this doesn't really relate to my truck, but something doesn't make sense to me. I have older ford taurus that is my daily driver. For the last year and half, my mileage has slowly been decreasing down with mixed driving. I went from 24 mpg to roughly 19mpg over the last year and half. I just assumed this was due to the car being old and starting to develop issues. It has 170k on the clock, so not a new car by any means. Besides, it has some minor emissions issues I have never concerned myself to get fixed.
Anyways, I went an put a new set of tires on the car this weekend as the old ones were pretty bad. To my surprise, My mileage jumped to 22 mpg when finishing off the half to 3/4 tank that was in the car. Based on this new tank of fuel, I think I am on target to be back up around 24mpg. So this begs the question, what was so bad about my old tires that hurt my mileage that bad? I check the air monthly, rotate and balance as required. The tires were down to their wear mark, but I can't see why that would make that big of a difference.
Anyways, just curious. I just found it odd. Thank goodness for cell phones. It is easier to see trends when it is easy to track stuff in a phone.
