I bought this truck in July and have lurking around since then. It only has 81k miles on it so there is not much work needed. I had an extensive tune up done which included changing the battery terminals. The positive terminal always has corrosion on it. I clean it off and it comes back. Any ideas?
COKE!!! or they make a product its in an aerosol can that you spray on your battery terminals to protect against corrosion.. works pretty good your local auto parts store will have it..
Kinda figured you were SoCal what with the style of the houses in the pic. Almost looks like we could be neighbors.....
So the spray doesn't work? Huh. Well, the only thing I can recommend is a combination of the spray and the silly little felt washers. The spray is meant to keep the corrosion from happening in the first place; the washers keep it from getting to the connection between the battery terminal and the clamp.
Mine does the same thing, ends up looking like a blue Chia Pet in a month or so. Only thing I can think of is that the battery is beginning to leak around where the post comes through the case.
Yeah well it was a good start, so is keeping it cleaned, and believe it or not I've had success put some marvel mystery oil on the connections from my squirt can. But if the battery is shot it will be leaking acid fumes from the battery posts. My cables were eaten up probably a foot deep inside the cables after replacing a 14 year old battery.... that still worked great though lol.
not really, like i said your battery is probably leaking acid or another guy said your alternator may be over charging it.. cable doesn't make sense to me..
Petroleum jelly(vasoline) really does the trick on the battery terminals, disconnect the terminal from the battery, thoroughly clean it and the post and then liberally coat everything and reconnect. If your terminals don't stay looking pretty much exactly the same for years after this then there is something wrong with the battery.
I have one battery, now 6 years old that i use as a spare that constantly corrodes the positive terminal. Clean it and a couple weeks later its corroded. In your case it must be the battery.
