I'm looking at investing in a 1979 Ford F150 4x4 with a 302 and 52,000 original miles
My question is, whats an easy way to lift one of these trucks? I know I could use blocks in the rear but how about up front? Would the heavier springs from an f250 with the 7.3 fit under my truck and give some lift?
Sorry for the dumb questions, this is my first 4x4. I had a 1989 Mazda minitruck for awhile but that went down not up
The only F-250's that used coils were the 2wd's. The easiest way to lift one of these is to buy the lift kit (if 4+"). If you're planning on going 4" or higher, you'll either need new c-bushings on the radius arms or extended radius arms or radius arm drop brackets. You'll also need a new pitman arm (they're a real PITA to change). Also, an adjustable track bar. An alignment afterword wouldn't hurt, either.
There's no such thing as a dumb question, champ. Ya gotta learn somehow, am I right?

Now, do you want to lift it, or just level it?
Would 2wd super duty coils help the cause at all? I can live with a 3" lift if it'll simplify things, and especially make it cheaper! lol.
I'm just trying to get an idea on the different ways of lifting it..
My old roommate had E-250 springs put in the front of his 94 Bronco to level it out (which is 2" of lift). 3" lift springs aren't too badly priced, but if you aren't willing to pay, I'd say check the junkyards and see if you can get some post 1980 springs (if I remember correctly, F-250 2wd front springs are shorter than F-150 4x4 springs). Check summitracing.com I picked up a pair of 4" skyjacker springs for $180.
Edit: I had AirLift brand air springs inside my stock coils on my 77 and they almost leveled the truck out. They gave me about 2.5" lift for $80 and one afternoon of labor. I even reused the original shocks.
Really, on a truck this old, it doesn't hurt to just buy new parts. That being said, you can space down the coil buckets for 2-3" lift, and do a shackle flip in the rear. I would suggest doing a search and reading for a while to get familiar.
