Lifting a 72
I had recently purchased a 1972 F-250 4x4 Highboy for the purpose of going off-roading, you know nothing hardcore, but still capable of hanging with the big-dogs. For now I'm trying to convert it to power steering but as soon as thats done, I want to lift it. I'm looking to lift it 6-8 inches. I see so many of these trucks, same year or older that are lifted 6-12 inches but when I searched around for lift springs, the only name that came up was Sky jacker and their 4" lift. They want $1000 for four leaf springs, u-bolts and cheap shocks! Everyone says you pay for the Skyjacker brand name, but this is ridiculous! its around $1200 for a 6" lift kit for my 99 F150 (Lobo) 4x4 with IFS. Is 4 inches of lift really worth $1000? Are there any other companies that make lift springs for these trucks? are springs from 73-79 compatible? And also, would anyone know which model Day-star Shackles I could use for the front springs? I plan to run 38"s maybe even 40's since these axles and T-case can handle them without problems.
I just cant believe there isnt as much stuff available for these model trucks since they're so commonly used for off-roading. 80 percent of the ones I see are lifted much higher than a measly 4 inches.
