What 460?

I am building a 1978 Bronco, I want to put in a EFI 460, I am going to pull it from a junk yard, what year should I shoot for or does it matter? For the best motor that is, does it matter what it comes out of?

Just find the newest one you can really. I believe 93+ trucks have slightly more power over the earlier ones.

Assuming you'll be pulling the entire harness and computer, you'll want to of course pull an engine and associated accessories from a vehicle with a similar type of transmission to the one you'll be running.

Luckily EFI 460s were available with manuals, C6s and E4ODs, so basically all your bases are covered.

user 85lebaront2 is in the process of converting his carbureted '86 dually to 460 EFI.

He has been in the carburetion and ignition business for years.
Perhaps Bill has some good advice?

Yes, F3TE are the better heads, there is also an intake change in there, I think the intake changed in 92 and 93 or 4. If you are going with a 460, try to get the front part of the exhaust, at least as far as the cat flange, it's a nice big system, dual 2 1/2" I think.

I am going to use it when I build my .040 over engine with a mild cam, decked block and the F3TE heads. Looks pretty usable once I have it cleaned.
