Ah, right, out off of Linn-West? I'm always surprised at the number of residences out there, for it being off the beaten path.

Funny how it's considered Shedd, being so close to Brownsville, and on the opposite side of the freeway from Shedd/Halsey.

My parents live down there still, in Halsey proper.

Cool. Well, in an effort to remain on-topic, no real crazy neighbors - fortunate to only have two neighbors who don't complain when I shoot clay targets or nutria.

Maybe they think I'm the crazy neighbor?

I used to have good neighbors...........a retired OSP trooper, and a Springfield cop.
The amount of LE vehicles coming and going from those places kept the undesirables far away..........that was Walterville, I miss it terribly.

Where we live in eugene it's the opposite...........the breeding ground of felons.

Those aren't felons, those are "future rehabilitation opportunities"

I thought they were "Unfortunate people trying to find themselves, and being persecuted by the system for making unconventional choices".

Hahahah, yeah, they're that too.

We can't be imposing societal rules on free spirits, now.

Yep, right off of Linn west. That'd be me.

Yeah.. I can't understand why my BIL want's to raise his two daughters in Ewwgene. They live right off of west 11th and some of the stories.. Neighbor wise they're ok, but they have a buss stop right out the front door. Yuck. Every time we visit there's some nutcase screaming or shambling around outside. I wouldn't subject my kids to that crap.

I have the High school on two sides of me now. All in all it wasn't that bad-had a bit of a buffer. Then they moved in a couple of trailers behind me and called it an "Alternative" school for the Eugene "wanna-bees". To add insult to injury, they have now bought the house on the North side of me and made it the "how to collect wellfare & food stamps at 16 parenting center". Nuff said, better quit while I'm ahead.

The fun ones are the ones that own the farm to the NE of the folks. When you hear the motors racing, get your bino's and lawn chair cause there is likely to be a show. Best one to date was when they come flying down the driveway on one of the quads. For some reason they decided NOT to stop, flew across the county road, hit the ditch, went through our wire fence, flipped the quad at least 4 or 5 times, rider doing aerobatics at the same time and both coming to a rest about 50 feet out into our North field. Don't know what the out come was. Bunches of people gathered around, picked up the pieces and evetually disappeared back up their driveway. No ambulance. I was laughing too hard to go down and offer the assistance of my shotgun to put him out of his misery.

When I was in Portland I lived on 97Th off Powell, right here the "S" curve is back behind the Bus barn. Every now and then someone would get in a wreck there and traffic would be diverted down 99th into our streets which were to put it mildly a labyrinth with only one real way out besides the way they came in. Well cars would race around in there at high speed looking for the exit so myself and a few crazy neighbors would don orange vests and direct traffic,,,,,,down all the dead end streets. There would usually be 25 to 50 cars hopelessly lost in that tiny neighborhood. Once we had jammed it up so bad that nobody could speed down any streets or even move it was Miller time. That was the quite a place to live, a real combination of blue collar guys and outlaws that managed to find common ground and co-exhist.

I thought it would work that way for my 'neighborhood' but it didn't work that way. We have a SWAT officer about 4 doors down. Thieves hit her house seeking the SWAT goodies.

Fortunately our bad neighbors were short lived and they were two places away. It didn't bug me so much but I know it was hell for my neighbors.

I've got real great neighbors about 400' North of me. They are almost to the top of the hill above me. Behind them there is another place with a 60's double wide on it. Those are the only two houses that aren't either a long ways away or over the ridge from me.

The owner of the double wide got called up to Afghanistan and when he went, his wife decided to stay with her parents until he returned. In the mean time they rented out their place to two other guys in their unit that didn't get called up.

After that I started hearing all sorts of stuff really late at night. Because it was over the ridge, it wasn't loud enough to bug me. If I went pee at night I'd faintly hear ATVs or cars running, gunshots in the distance or loud music. Turns out these guys would have parties and then go crazy in the middle of the night.

One time I'd hear revving, and then a bang and honk. Turns out they were cutting trail with a trashed Mazda Tribute through the blackberries. When they found a tree, it would make a crash - the honking was them slamming into the steering wheel. That lasted until they fell off a 30' cut bank down onto the county road. I really wish I took pictures of that one. It was in the ditch when I went to work, and it was all hauled off by the time work was done.

When the owner got back on leave he found out what had happened and was really pissed and kicked them out.

Now the place has been sold. There is a nice older couple. We did have their granddaughter for a while and she scared me a bit. We don't know why, but apparently she was kicked out of school up in the Portland area so she came to go to school here. She was always up to something shady and I ended up banning her from being around my kids and vice versa. Now she's been expelled and I'm not sure where she went from here. Turns out the little 11 y/o has been teaching sex techniques to the boys at school and was busted for it more than once.

Now that she's gone we're back to a quiet neighborhood.

my neighbors are all afraid of me. I guess thats what I get when I look like a felon with a pool table in my garage that you can see in the summer. Plus when you own a lifted van with exhaust that rivals a good muscle car... people hesitate to walk through the ol beer can graveyard to knock on the front door....
