Question FE oiling mods

What are the oiling modifications suggested for a (390) FE? Can anyone tell me where to find these tech articles(what to search for)? Or, what books are they in?
Are they really necessary for a stock 4X4, doing trailering, and hauling? Can I do them when I pull my heads, or only during a rebuild?

I remember reading something, but can't find the article.

Thanks, s

Do a search for "Oilling Mods" using the search function above. There are tons of posts on this topic. I am working on a web page for this purpose but it will be sometime next year before I can get to a block to take pictures of. They are very easy to do.

S, there are several threads on the oiling issues, use the search and see what ya get. If you are running yer FE in a 4x4, do you have the correct oilpan ? Long ago, when I was young and foolish, I ran a beefy 390 in a 4x4 with the can style pan on it. The engine was from a '69 stang and was very strong. Unfourtunately, the carstyle pan ( which the 2wd trucks have as well ) is not so good for hill climbing. After about 10 months of fun, the engine threw #8 rod. My replacement engine had the correct 4x4 oilpan, you can be sure. I hope others can learn from my mistake. DF @ his Dad's

Dino,
Yes, the pickup had an original 360 with the correct pan (6 qt. rear sump). It works great, I do very little hill climbing though, just the occasional creek bank. I grabbed this engine out of an 20,000 mile '69 station wagon, rerung it, new bearings, oil pump, and unfortunately I got a budget valve grind (my present problem). The valves sunk into the head so much that they started floating. But, that is a whole other topic I'll eventually get around to. Thanks, s

Rat,
I must be incompetent, because I did multiple searches within FTE and found nothing, I even did a search for "oil." I'll try again using "oilling modifications," I was mis-spelling the "oilling." I enjoy your input on all the threads keep it up. Thanks, s
