Im in need of some help i have recently aquired a 2003 f150 4.2 5spd 128k when igot i noticed a cel codes p0171-po174 and 1506 i thought no big deal i can fix it , in the past 2 weeks i have done plugs wires fuel filter, cleaned maf intake plenum gaskets and new isolator bolts, iac sensor, those codes went away now im getting a 1131 since then i have changed out the 2 upstream o2s ,egr valve, and new pvc hose and gromet that goes from the valve cover to the intake, and added seafoam the truck it runs great no loss of power idles perfect. just trying to figure out why im still getting the code, i have also checks every possible vac line for a leak. sorry for the long post trying to be as detailed as i can
1131 is lean on bank#1. Might not be receiving a signal from the upstream O2 sensor. Could be a loose connection, but since you didn't have that code before you did all of the intake repairs I would suspect something wrong there.
Yes i have cleared the codes they come back after 40 miles of driving im going to check fuel pressure and vacum tonight im leaning towards a bad ecm just not sure how to test it
i checked the plenum when i took it off to change the gaskets, i have used some carb clean to check for anymore leaks cant find anything again the truck runs and idles smooth im sure if there were a leak it would idle rough, truck idles smooth at 800rpm
A review of the previous codes show the original 1506 is the same as the present 1131.
There could be a lot of sources of the issue.
Since the code is now for one bank, a cylinder with a leaking or restricted fuel injector on that bank could be the more specific source of the code.
The OX senosr is the only way the system has to alert for a trouble by setting a code caused by a fuel table that has shifted out of normal limits.
It could even be a problem with the sensor or the harness with a ground, cross or open from a burn or rub through.
This then could show as a missing or incorrect switching signal to the ECM.
As mentioned above, anything that upsets the A/F ratio or a false or missing signal from the sensor can end up being a 1131 ot 1506 code.
What most miss is the definitive meaning of each code and what it is saying about the issue.
Good luck.
