OK guys, I know I have read about this at least 20 times but I can't seem to find it now.
I would like to do a blue spring upgrade on my late 2004 F350 6.0
Can anybody tell me how its done and where to get the parts?
Unless your old cover is cracked or has something broken on it...you shouldn't need the cover. I think the replacement is pretty straight forward with the diagram supplied with the parts. Been trying to see if I can find a photo instruction link...but no luck yet.
I am going to do this upgrade tomorrow and I have a question about it.
I know I will not be using every o-ring etc. with the kit(I have the one without the new cover). But looking at the link that Blade posted in this thread got me thinking, it appears that I don't need half of what is in this kit. See last picture that says old parts removed. I know it's a simple procedure I just want to make sure all my ducks are in a row. Thanks.
some things I found very helpful.
Rusty said to have a few shop towels around the
back to catch dribbles and any dropped parts. Next
Very helpful because I almost dropped the nut is a zip tie
on the fuel line to keep the nut in reach.
Very happy I did not have to go fishing for it.

Yes definitely remember to put the zip tie on the fuel line to keep the nut from sliding down. I forgot to do it and "fishing" that nut back up the fuel line turned out to be the most frustrating part of the job.
Ok last question, Can I get by with just replacing what is under the cover? The diagram I have also shows replacement of 4 o-rings on the right side of the housing also. I have looked at a few things and I am getting some mixed info. Also thanks for the zip tie trick I will definitely be using that.
Patton, I did the blue spring kit on my truck about 2 weeks ago. Very very simple. If your stock o-rings are fine. I would not worry about buying new ones. Mine came with the kit. So I replaced them. I bought the complete kit with new housing. I am sure I did not need any of the parts but the spring. I did have an extra peice that was not on my truck. So left it out. This job took about 20 minutes start to finish. Only thing I removed was the air filter housing and intake plumbing from the intercooler to the intake. I am no mechanic. But I do my own wrenching. Very easy to do. Just replace what you took off with new.
I did use a hand vacuum pump that I got from Autozone to suck out the deisel that was in the housing. I heard people using turkey basters or what not. I think the cheap $20 vacuum pump is a must have in anyones tool box. I use it to bleed brakes. Works for lots of things.
Yeah I figured about the same as you as to what is involved, just got confused with all the extra o-rings. Just don't want to overlook anything. Thanks for the info.
The extra o-rings are for different versions of the filter housing that use the same pressure regulator; there are certain o-rings that will be left over.

I think Ford just knows us back yard mechanics..... we aren't happy unless there is a few "SPARE" parts left after a job
