I had a 2008 6.4 diesel truck from 06/07-07/10 and I put approx. 155,000 miles on it. In the 6.4 forum we noticed that many folks would consistently develop heavy soot residue in the tips of the tailpipe. This occurred in 2009 and I see evidence of soot on those trucks all the time.
If you look you will see about 2 out of 10 6.4 powered trucks with black tailpipes. In the forums we would steadily warn folks looking at buying used 6.4 trucks to inspect the tailpipe. My truck always had clean pipes, our other company truck always had a thick black soot buildup. Diesel techs know its not the way it is supposed to be but ford never seemed to address the issue.
So, my observation and question to all us 6.7 owners. I have yet to see evidence of any soot on any 6.7 truck! I love it! I would like to know if any of you have seen any (except the trucks with no DPF). Look at the pipes of any 6.4 and 6.7 that you see in your travels and chime in please.
No soot on mine. If you look at the exhaust video I did I showed the inside of the DPF. There was absolutely no black soot build-up anywhere and the peak at the ceramic DPF was interesting. Pretty amazing really.
Hopefully these all stay clean.
Crazy or Epic (or someone else) mentioned emissions system 2.0 a long time ago.
I completely agree.
Heck, I think the tips are cleaner than my paint right now!
Can't say the same for the 6.4L because I have seen trucks with black factory tips.
I do know three people with 6.4L and all three have clean pipes though.
The soot deal on 6.4s was interesting. Vloney had some theories on it. It really did not indicate anything other than it was inconsistent and was not supposed to happen. The fact that it did made me uncomfortable. Great running 6.4 s could have sooty pipes but I hated (OCD) the fact that some were different for no real reason.
I have yet to see any soot on a 6.7 and will be watching for sure. This second generation DPF system is much improved as it should be.

Thanks for the replies.
Did the soot trucks get worse mileage in your experience!
