i just put on a new gpr and checked all fuses and relays. i have power to the gpr at all times and to the i post when the ignition is on but i cannot get power to the s terminal to charge the solonoid. any thoughts and help would be great.
the only thing that comes to mind are cold or hot engine?
if cold, i would be looking at the temp sensor. if hot engine, you will not get energized power to the relay.
ok. the engine is cold. the temp guage read out on the dash fine the other day but that probably isnt a deffinite that it is ok. how else would i check?
As you indicated one small terminal will have power with key ON (Red/LtGrn wire) and the other small terminal (PPL/ORG) is pulled to ground by the PCM to activate the GPR. From your description is sounds like the relay is working. Does it click when you turn the key to ON?
so i didnt trust the gpr i bought and ran to napa and bought the gpr 109. it started the the truck but with a test light hooked to the gloe pug post the coil is not releasing when wait to start light goes out. is my pcm not releasing the ground? are my glow plugs going to fry?
Glow plug ON time is independent of wait-to-start light. WTS light comes on for a few up to maybe 20 seconds while the GPR can stay on for up to 2 minutes. And no you won't hurt anything. You can tell when the GPR turns OFF by watching your in-cab volt meter because it will jump up when the relay turns OFF.
Here is a chart showing GPR on time vs engine oil temp ...
