Custom Expy Alterations

Thanks, I bought my expy used and it had new 275/65 goodyears that have quite a bit of road noise. I've thought about putting more insulation in the floor on other cars but never heard of anyone actually doing it. Next weekend I think I'll give it a try.

tsdrallyer,

Rgds the six "pad eyes", What are pad eyes and what do they look like?

Did you drill through the carpet? if you did, did you use anchors to hold the pad eyes in place?

What did you do to attach the bungee cord to the side window.

Rgds the insullation, did you also remove the door panels or did you only do the floor? When you did the floor, did you have to cut the carpet or did you just pull it up? Did you do the entire floor area or just the front and middle seat areas?

Thanks for your patience...

I installed the insulation under the floormat by just by removing all pull -off plastic panels that were holding it down i.e. door sills, door posts, etc. except I did not remove console. I installed the new insulation by pulling up the carpet and holding it in place with rope while rolled back, to cut and fit the new insulationin the rear hatch, upper and lower body panels, window post panels, headliner, and floor. I also installed this on the outside of th vehicle, under the rear cargo area floor. This has required maintenace occasionally from water and wind damage.

Pad eyes resemble a flat stainless steel bar or plate about .5" wide, 1.5" long, that have a loop of heavy wire welded on. Picture an upside down U with the ends welded to the base. All marine stores have them as well as most Home Depot, Lowe's etc. I mounted them through the carpet with No. 12 phillips screws directly into the metal floor pan, first checking to make sure I wouldn't damage anything underneath. Pad eyes come is various sizes form tiny to huge. I used smaller ones on the plastic window post panels in the rear windows to mount the bungee cords there. I pop riveted them on to the rear and middle post panels, spanning the full length of the rearmost windows.

One of these days I've GOT to take some pictures of my truck and load them here. :-)
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a ton of work! I'll probably do it, but down the road a bit.

How did you get your headliner to stay on after you removed it and has it ever sagged on you?

Thanks for your post!!

I agree!! It sounds like you have done some really cool mods. It would be nice to be able to see the end result.
