Brake lines

I have pondering this issue for the last week. Awhile back I got the power brake booster and mounting brackets off the 66 F100 I saw along with the hood and fenders. So in order to install this thing and go to a dual master set up this is what I think I need. One, a dual master from maybe a 67 Mustang that used drum brakes and had equal size resevoirs. Two, a brake distribution block which I managed to get for drum brake systems. Third, is the brake lines. Obviously need to make most all of them.

The problem is the double flaring. I have the tools but when I made my fuel lines it took several before I could get the double flare leak proof. I really don't need to make a brake line, flare it and find out it leaks slowly. So would it be possible to obtain a brake line set for maybe a 1967 F100 which would have lines for a dual master incorporating the distribution block? Naturally costs more than making your own but would also seal 100% with no worries.

Before someone says go to discs that is not possible. You need a donor and those are practically impossible to find in my area. When one shows up, and I get out there, someone has already been there. One really needs to be there the day it shows up and that is simply not possible for me.

I had thought about this approach as well. NPD on page 33 of their catalog sells 6 piece pre-bent brake line sets to fit the application you need (1967-70 F100) both long and short bed. And the sets are available in carbon steel and SS.

My problem was cost. At $155. to $185. + UPS oversize shipping cost, it seemed a little high vs me bending/flaring the lines.

Now, it has been some time since I double flared, but seems like it should not be too hard to do and keep it leak-proof and save some $.

Biggest problem was I was not sure a later year set would fit a '66 exactly, I do know the mounting holes in the frame for the later dual drum distribution valve (I already have one) are not the same as my '66 single M/C, but NPD says the lines themselves are "...duplicated against original lines using CNC computer benders for accuracy and consistency..."

I plan to do the exact same thing in the spring, and would like to know if you have success if you buy the pre-bent kit. Good luck!

BTW, I really don't think you need the equal size reservoirs, I believe new replacement for the drum/drum M/C's have the more modern unequal reservoirs. Yes there is more fluid available for the front with these, but it is not needed or used. Edit: you will need the dual M/C that holds pressure to preload front drum as well as rear, though.

Despite what others say, discs are only superior in fade resistance and operation in water. If you ain't driving it in thru large amounts of water or pulling a trailer in the mountains, I say save your doggone $.

I agree. When mentioning 'fade resistance', is another way to say that I can't drive it like my girlfriend's Taurus that has disc brakes. With four wheel drums I have to remember to allow for a slightly longer braking distance, meaning apply the brakes sooner and not as hard.
