hey F100 hows the truck running? hope its well. hey since you and I talked I have realy been thinking on going 390 instead of 410. the main reason is your getting the same horse power I wanted out of mine. the big diffrence is I would have to pay about $550 more for the crank. but to do what I want I need the recipe you used then Ill modify it to fit my needs. if you dont mind helping me out?

Sure gras, no problem. Whatever you need to know, I will tell you if I know it. I wish I had went with a little bigger cam though, I have .533 lift now but something in the sixes would be better.

And more importantly, one day I am going to get either 428CJ heads or the edelbrock heads for the 390, huge power, flow, flow, flow!!!

I can't really say the 410 is better or worse, someone like ratsmoker will have to answer that question, but I do understand 390's very well now.

Yes, the engine is running well. I took the truck up to Bob (the guy who built it) and he appreciated me bringing it so he could listen to it (he did apologize for suggesting the automotive guy, I guess noone has every told him of a bad experience). Of course, he had numerous suggestions concerning gear ratios, trannies, and the like. He has built a many race engines (63 went out of the shop lsat year).

So, with all that said, I have some horsies, but can't put them on the ground just yet, but each day that engine gets stronger and stronger (actually, the fist day I drove the truck I thought something was wrong with the engine, been a long time since I have driven a vehicle with a fresh engine in it, lol). Now when I touch the gas pedal slightly the 6000 pound beast moves like a tornado hitting a feather.

OK, message is probably getting too long now, so I will stop. Good luck on the experience and I guarantee you, more will be spent than you budgeted, lol. Doc.

Ah, he recipe, I forgot. Here we go:

1. Edelbrock 600 cfm, manual choke carb
2. Edelbrock RPM FE intake.
3. Crane 343902 cam kit (has the 901 cam with 216 duration and max lift of .533, at 4500 rpms if I remember correctly).
4. Pertronix Ignitor II coil
5. Accel electronic distributor (I had the pertronix electronic gizzmo that everyone talks about but it did not work, so I just bought a good distributor).
6. 8mm racing plug wires.
7. Do the oling modifications for the FE engine
8. Valve Springs that go with the cam of your choice.
9. I did not do this but if you have the money get roller rockers, anything that causes less friction in the engine produces power).
10. If you like have the heads and intake ported for more flow.
11. Main bearings, let Bob get these because I don't know what your crank specs will be, my crank was only worn .005, so i was withing specs and it was not warped (no turning necessary, but he did polish it).
12. Melling high volume oil pump.
13. Arp oil pump shaft.
14. ARP bolts for the rods.
15. I have Hedman header, but I also have an extra set of Dynoma headers that summit sent to me to replace the one that didn't fit, so I have and extra set for sell guys, lol.
16. I got the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers, they sound ok, but not like Flowmasters.
17. I used 2.5" plumbing because I don't feel I have enough exhuaust to support 3" pipes, will probably add an H-pipe for balance a little later when I have some more money.
18. The rest of what I have is just pretty chrom stuff and does not add functionality to the engine.

Hope it helps. Doc. And for huge horsies, you might want to model ratsmoker's engine, because he races his truck. I am going to be hauling with mine mostly, but just want to be able to do 100 mph quickly when I feel like it.

thanks for the recipe. I see a place or two I think Ill change some stuff but nothing more than what you mentioned (heads, cam, exaust, valve train)

what pistons did you use and what compression are they supposed to give? if I remember right you said at one time 10.5:1 I really dont want to go above 10:1 but not sure yet.
Im thinking of getting desktop dyno so I can run all my #s and match horses for the best combo to fit my needs and wants.
Keep us informed about your motor as time goes on Im really interested in how it performs after break in.
