W/G removal

Throw'n it out there guys, but is it easier to access/replace, the wastegate, by removing it by itself, or popping the clip and removing the compressor housing? I somehow screwed the w/g up, when replacing the turbo a few months back, tightening it up, thinking i'd get more boost, well, thats not the case. Cant get over 10psi and 14psi with redline unhooked...

I think that clip would be a PITA in place. I always worked on mine when the turbo was out. Do you have a replacement? If not, I might still have my OEM one around from when I put the big head on.

Ya, got an extra one, the original one that was on the original turbo...Just not sure if the 2-10mm nuts are accessible from atop the housing? But ya, that clips a bit%$. Have a few spares for that reason...

someone mentioned tying floss around the clip so you could retrieve it if you drop it. i tied a piece of fine safety type wire tight around the clip, and the other end through the hole in the tab that hangs down from the hood cowel gasket where some wires are. i'm sure thats not the right name for it but you know where i mean. any way you just grab the 5 or 6 twists and pull it off, same to put it back. i did it a few times adjusting the waste gate. should work for you as far as the clip goes.

Stinton, not following you bud, but appreciate the opinion. Try'n to figurethe easiest route to "lengthen" the w/g rod or remove it from turbo, without removing the compressor housing ,but if it takes removing the housing, then guess i go that route...

you have to remove the C clip at the end of the W.G rod, lift up the rod to disconect it from the W.G. then you loosen the lock nut on the arm and turn the arm, iirc clockwise to tighten the W.G. i was just responding to the part about getting the clip off. sorry.

The easiest way woud be to remove the clip.

To reconnect rod use compressed air on the actuator to push the rod out to get it back over the pin.
The rod should start moving at about 6 to 8 PSI. Don't over do it or you might damage the actuator diaphragm.

Timmyboy...... What he is talking about it the C-clip on the rod, your going to have to remove that in order to tighten the rod if I remember right. He was letting you in on a nice trick that works wonders, once you locate the C-clip take a piece of dental floss and tie around the C-clip before you pop it off. Those things will disapear before you know it when our taking them off. This way you dont loose it. As for your question about the 2 nuts, yes you can reach them with out pulling the turbo off or apart, I promise you it wont be fun or comfortable but you can do it.

He won't have to do that if he removes the clip.
