I'm building up the engine my my 1991 Exploder for a BBK supercharger installation. One of the things I know I'll need is a higher flow fuel pump. I know I can easily get an "in line" fuel pump that will help my stock fuel pump out, but what I'd really like to do is get a high flow "in tank" pump to replace my stocker.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen one specifically for my vehicle anywhere. I do know of someone on a the Serious Explorations forum who has a S/C and he used a pump from a Ford Lightning. He suggested that a Mustang pump might work also, probably needed to be modified though.
Anyone know if a Lightning pump will work in my X?
Or, if not, what year Mustang pump I should use and what I hafta do to it to make it work?
I really don't know the answer to this one- my solution would be to use the external pump. Possibly, you could use one from a v8 Explorer, but your best bet would be to take a trip to the parts store. Check out a stock pump, and one from a Mustang, or Lightning, and see if they will physically work together. If the connector is the same, all external dimensions match, and they use the same size line, I don't see why not.
The 1993 Mustang 5.0 pump looks IDENTICAL to the 1991 Ford Exploder pump....I have no idea what the flow/pressure specs are on the the Mustang pump, though...hopefully it will be up to the task of feeding a supercharged engine.
I am glad you were able to find something that works for you. I don't think you will have any problems feeding that thing- but I would put an adjustable regulator on it.
