water pump question

Hey all, i am trying to replace the thermo housing and the water pump on my '93 e150 with the 4.9l engine. Anyway, I am wondering what order you need to use to get the pump out? Do you remove the 4 bolts that go through the fan in to the clutch first? then turn the big nut (backwards) to remove? Or do you remove the 4 bolts that go in to the pulley first and it slide out? Or just try spinning the big nut? Not sure which way to go. Thanks for any help.

(BTW- I also had the dreaded snapped stud on the Thermo housing

ok, I broke down and ordered the two special wrenches for this, hopefully that does the trick. That gives me a day or two to soak the broken stud with penetrant too. Hopefully the bolts for the water pump don't decide to snap too.

Next thing, I was trying to remove the pipe with the coolant temp sensor on it, and literally snapped my bench vice (not a small one at that) So I am wondering if you can order that outlet pipe that comes out of the thermostat housing and has the temp sensor threaded in it?

Also, anyone have any recommendations on a good bench vice?
