Head liner removal

Hi newbi here. Been lurking here for bout a month. My x is a 2000 50000 miles I picked up bout a month ago for 10gs witch I thought was a steal. And im usually on the classic bronco sight. That said I would like to install a dvd/nav/stereo and run a back up cam to it. I want to run the wires through the head liner. I did a couple of searches and could not come up with any detailed discussions on the removal of the head liner. Anybody have any links to a thread like this? I would post pics but do not know how yet plus its just a stock black xlt im sure you have seen one before. Thanx much in advance!

I wouldn't pull the headliner just to run a rear view cam. I mounted mine up at the third brake light - pulled the wires through the rubber thing between the hatch and the body.

You can pull the upper trim off (pull straight down, the clips will release)...then just run the wires along the side of the headliner. Make sure to take something to tuck it up high around the back windows - if you don't it can slip out and you will see it from the inside (but the window tint will keep it hidden from the outside).

When you get to the C pillars, just pull the top of the trim back (pull it towards the center line of the truck) enough to tuck it above the headliner. Pull the door seals to get it above the doors (pull the sill plates at the bottom by pulling straight up, then just pull the seal off)...same trick with the B pillars as you did with the C pillars. Pull the trim to the front doors (same as the back doors - start with the sill plate, remove the kick panel by pulling that little tree connector off, then pulling the kick panel towards the rear of the truck), then just run it down the A pillar, under the fuse panel to the center then up to the back of the head unit. If the wire isn't long enough, you can find a video extension cable and female adapter at Radio Shack for a few bucks.

NO WAY I'd pull the entire headliner for that...overkill.

Yeah, you have to pull off all the pillar trim, remove everything along the roof (hooks, handles, lights, A/C control, etc.), and then pull the push in pin things.

Just remember to tape the wires up there good, because if you don't, they'll rattle between the headliner and roof as you go down the road. That'll get annoying REAL quick.

I don't recall if you have to pull the rear A/C vents before dropping the headliner or not. I pulled them first, just because it was easier. I don't think they have to be out though, I think it all just sits up there close.

I ran both my rear traffic director and my rear backup cam and only removed the upper trim panel at the back. I think on the traffic director I may have removed the grab handle on the 2nd row since the cable was kind of thick, but I still don't think you have to remove the entire headliner or any of the center bits to run something as small as a backup camera wire.

I was able to fish my wires through the liner, by removing the rear trim & the overhead console, using a fish tape...
