So i bought a 1999 V10 8 for 6k from a used car lot with a loan 8 days ago went to change the oil and notice that a piece of the block was broken. I then took it to a mechanic and they said is was broke on both sides and that 3 bolts of the 6 (2 top and 1 side) were holding the tranny on. I had a mechanic look at it before i bought it and they didn't notice the issue then. The parts are rusted and looks to have been that way for quite a while. The tranny seems to shift fine now but they say it won't stay that way. The car lot is deciding right now what they want to do. So if the used car lot comes back and says your SOL and it doens't work out with them what are my options with this truck? Do i part it out sell it "as is", try to fix it?
Thanks for your help.
wow man that sucks. i would sue the car dealer if they wont take it back. im a dealer and could buy that truck for less than half what u paid. unless its like mint with leather and crew cab
Well the used car lot took back the bad truck and paid off the loan and i bought another 99 f250 from them that is a v8 and in much better condition (paid $120 to go through it thoroughly, no issues) with lower miles. They were pretty cool about the whole thing which makes me wonder if they new about the issue the whole time, they said they had now idea about the broken block. Anyway i'm back on the road with a truck that looks like its going last. Thanks for all the info and helpful ideas. I will now be moving to the v8 5.4 threads.
Glad it all worked out. You hear of so many bad experiences with these sorts of issues, it's heartening to hear that sometimes, people are treated fairly. Kudos to you and the dealer.
