Bought a 78 f250 frame with the hd dana 44 and rear 60. Bought a 10.25 for the rear and buddy has a dana 60 that im gonna get too 4.10 gears. Have a stock 400 that has very good tq gonna put some headman headers on it a 4 barrel intake and carb and also straight up timing chain. And also I have a body for it. My question is will super duty springs fit on this frame? I have the stock ones off my 99. And look too be roughly 4 inches higher. And also what else should I do too get it ready for the truck pulls? Thanks
Sounds like a good combination of drivetrain.glad to see some faith put in a 400 when a lot of times there swapped for a Windsor or 7.5 . What kind of tires and are your differentials open? Plenty of old Milwaukees best and determination should get her done.
A good trans I think would be a ZF-5 or 6 with a 205 transfer case, divorced if possible. But a np435 or T-18 will work too. If you have the money to put into a C-6 then that is also an option too. If your diffs are open put a spool in the rear and a locker up front. Just my 2 cents
Sorry guys its a c6. Buddy said the 10.25 is limited slip and not sure about the dana 60. Spools are more in my price range. But lockers front and rear will be put in sooner or later. Any recommendations on tires?
Ok go with a full manual valve body in the C-6 then and spool the rear. Sell the limited slip for the locker in the front. A good M/T tire should do good for pullin. I read in the pullin section on here that you want a wheel speed around 35 mph. So drop it in 4 low and find out which gear gets you to 35.
What does a manual valve body do to aid the c6 in pulling?
It will treat the c6 like a manual and locks the trans in that gear not allowing it to shift. As well as being able to adjust the pressure that the pump puts to each gear. The higher the pressure the less likely a clutch will slip.

The C6 is already like that in D1 and D2. There shouldn't be any reason to start out pulling a sled in Drive. Likely start out in either 1 or 2 and hold it.
