I picked up a vinyl restoration kit from Eastwoods, thought I'd pass along the results.
If you're thinking about replacing worn or faded panels you won't be dissappointed with this kit. It comes with a cleaner, primer and top coat. Clean the panels real well. I used a spray cleaner before using the cleaner that comes in the kit. The primer goes on clear and the top coat goes on while the primer is wet.
The panels are off of a donor truck. The small white spots you see is where small holes where drilled into the panel...I have no idea why...I filled them before getting started.
Use in a well ventilated area.....the fumes are wicked!
Yes SEM makes awesome products! I painted my door panels with the SEM plastic paint and primer which was all bought at my local auto parts store. I bought Dennis Carpenter "seconds" panels and painted them. Look just as good as new.
Ive seen a lot of pros use this stuff. havent had the chance to use it yet. do you need to use an adhesion promoter with it or a primer. I cant see using this stuff on carpet or seats though like they say, if its not a dye.
I'm not sure if it was the same stuff but I used something similar to paint the trim piece surrounding the sunroof switch on my 99 mustang (when I owned it). It was advertised as a plastic/vinyl dye yet if you "tried" to scratch it it would flake away like paint. Still looked better than most paints though!
I just did the same thing. I used denatured alcohol and the Dupli-Color interior paint for plastic. Hope you didn't pay much for that kit. I only have about $10 in mine and still got plenty of paint and denatured alcohol left.
How tough is it. Any chips or scratches. I used their trim black before on plastic with hit and miss results, but I blamed the bad times on not using an adhesion promoter.
i haven't tried to scratch it. I scrubbed them done twice before applying the cleaner and adhesion promoter. Nice thing is, if it does scratch it won't be a big deal to touch up.
Even the paint on the body panels will scratch or chip with the best preparation and paint.
