I put a Toyota power steering gear in place of the old one. I am looking to mount a GM style pump. I can't seem to find a pulley to fit the wide flathead belt. Any ideas? thanks
I have a 47' that I want to do the same with. Can you post some pics of your setup? I am mostly confussed on how I can clear the front springs with the pitman arm, and where along the frame you mounted your box.
Mine is a 39 big truck. If you search the web for toyota steering conversion you will come across a couple of links. I got the parts from midfifty.com. They have a conversion kit for mid-fifty trucks that has a bracket that bolts right into the orginal bolt holes. I built my own bracket as theirs would not fit for me. It may in the 47 frame as it is different than 39.
I used the orginal steering shaft hole so I would not have to modify the draglink lenght or the steering column angle.
On the 50s the draglink is on the outside. As you can see in the picture above the 39 is on the inside. I bought another draglink ball, drilled out the old one, and welded it on the inside.
You can't see in the picture, but mine has a single traverse front spring. That is why I went this route instead of a rack and pinion. I have seen those setups before. Mine has a wishbone and there was not enough clearance for that.
The top frame flange is bent up to clear the box, I had to bend mine up/in a little more to clear the Toyota box as it is a little thicker.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your project. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Still trying to mount a GM power steering pump to the flat head. Any ideas out there?
