wouldent you essencially have the same thing with the 5 speed/brownie combo?
to make your splined jack shaft strong enough, youd almost need to make it out of a peice of 4140 Chrome Molly and heat treat it, otherwise youll shear the splines right off under high torque
first of all ur lookin around 1500 for a bownie. my last three trucks didnt even total that. and the splined jackshaft doesnt need to be any stronger than a normal driveshaft. all ur doing is spining another gearbox, which will increase torque output. my driveshaft and axle is my big worry. they are going to be the weak link if i get traction with to much wieght things always break.

were not talking about the shaft, but the splines cut into the shaft itself will shear off under high torque. that is to say that the axle shafts u joints or drive shaft dont go first
Yep and the front trans won't have much of a load, but there is a reason 2ton truck transmissions are way heavier. They have essentially the same motor as a pickup, but with lower gearing and higher gvw the transmissions, shafts, and u-joints are quite a bit larger.
Lets put it this way if you put a load on that truck you can't move in the low range of the t-case, you truck is going to fart parts everywhere.
thats y im going with a normal drive shaft. i can change a drive shaft in 20 minutes. and all im truly trying to accomplish is overdrive and towing and still have a stock motor. simple reliable and cheap. no turbos or intercoolers. now that i think about it i may install it on something like a crew cab or like a 50s flatbed.
A wide range ZF 5 with 5.72 first gear (like the put in the F450 super duties) and a BW 1345 transfer case and 4.10 gears gives you final output of 64.26:1 ratio. How much lower do you need??? A gas T19 or T18 would be 71:1. Thats really really low, like 3x lower than typical granny!
