Freeze plugs are typically located on the block walls midway between the cylinder head and the oil pan. They are round stamped (zinc plated) brass cups that are pressed into the holes in the block. They are thin enough to allow the coolant in the block to push them outward if it ever freezes. In theory, a freeze plug should expand or fail before the freezing coolant cracks the block. Of all my photos I can't find a single decent picture of a freeze plug.
sorry havnt been on here in a while been busy working on my bronco. well yall were right it was the head gaskets and i discoved a few other things that going to need some work later with either a rebuild kit or just put another motor in and be done with it. but since the head gaskets have been replaced im nolonger losing coolant i also had some bad valve seals so those got changed out too. then i noticed that i had a slightly bent valve and replaced it. but i got lucky the head were stright and had no issues. now it runs like a champ and sounds alot better. i look forward to replacing the motor but im not sure if im going to go with the same or go a little bigger just for the more power side of it.
