I was driving my 93 F150 truck to night and lost power steering and the alternator light came on. While it was raining of course. I thought to myself the belt broke. Upon inspection the tensioner bolt pulled out of the ac/alternator bracket. The threads on the bolt are fine, but the threads on the bracket are gone. So I thought I would just get a longer bolt to reinstall the tensioner. Two problems, first the bolt looks to have a special shoulder on it and second, the back of the bracket is not flat.
Has this happened to anybody and/or does anybody have a clue how to fix this. Thanks for any advice and help.
You could get a Thread-sert or a Heli coil and replace the thread. Most kits come with the proper drill size. Drill it, tap it and install the new theads.
I pretty much know about the bolt with the shoulder down by the head. In a pinch you could use a standard bolt, but I'm sure the shoulder helps hold the tensioner properly without allowing it to galled up on the remaining material.
