Has anyone ever tried making a catch can that would mount in the engine compartment? I have read that you secure the first section of hose coming out of the dog house in an upward slant so that any oil that condenses out of the gas right there will drain back into the dog house.
I have also read that guys put scotch brite in their catch can to filter oil and to help the oil condense out of the gas. So my question why not put a catch can right there or close. A hose will deliver oily gas to the can and another house will deliver oil right back to the dog house and then the less oily gas can go out another hose down to the exhaust like normal. I don't want to have to empty the catch can and waste a little oil. I guess thats how the Racor is supposed to work, right? What do you think?
Just a thought (we DMV-fearing serfs in CA can't do a ccv mod) but how 'bout sliding a snug fitting bore brush into the hose just as it leaves the doghouse? Oil can collect on it and drain back readily from that spot.
I have built many of catch cans over the years for people. An auto drain back is very very nice! Coarse steel wool like mentioned works great, SS is best. I have also found that if you increase the size of the hose/port (bigger than the incoming hose/port) from the catch can to exhaust, intake, atmosphere the can will work better. The bigger the can the better.
Yeah we can, as long as it remains a closed system (ie Racor). I went to visit with the local smog referee, and he contacted BAR directly and got the OK.
Yikes! $342! It better work really well. My CCV mod cost $5. Not really any smoke coming out of my discharge hose, which goes directly to atmosphere. I suppose that's a good thing.
I just finished my ccv, based on Guzzle's model. Mounted behind the driver's side fender liner near the frame. Not much harder to run a second hose back to the intake to close the system. About 35 dollars total.
Regarding this, has anybody gone to the trouble of cleaning the intercooler? Gotta be a whole lot of oil residue in that thing.
Thanks.
Your intercooler gets blown out every time you run hard. I had mine off a few times before the catch can and there was never been more than a few ounces of oil in it. The outside needs the bugs and dirt cleaned out of it occasionally though.
