I have a 69 f250 with an unknown vintage 460. It is old enough to have points is all I know for sure. It has been idleing rough, yesterday I changed plugs, points, condenser, distributer cap, and rotor. It runs a lot better, also put new fuel and air filters too, it still idles a little rough. I think the timing is off a little bit because it smooths right out as soon as you raise the rpms some. Where should I start with initial timing? I need to disconnect the vacuum line to the distributer for this right? Do I plug the line going to the carb or just take it off of the dist? The haynes manual showes 12 degrees initial for the only year 460 with points in it, I think it was 73. Would this be a good place to start? Or should I be looking elsewhere for the cause of the rough idle? Old gas etc?
Thanks a lot for any ideas, with the price of gas this truck does not get driven as often as it should, I hope to change that this summer.
Thanks aerostar dad I did check the timing and it was at 12 degrees it is running rough again but I haven't had a lot of time with it. On vacation this week so it is on the list.
