I have a 94 f-250 supercab 5.8L auto 4X4, at 54 mph and up there is a intermitant knocking coming from the front axle (D50), I have replaced all of the u-joints because thats what the noise sounds like but hasn't seemed to help. I've run it with the front drivshaft off just to make sure it wasnt that and it's still there, Im at wits end here and am not sure what to do next. Is it the wheel bearings or maybe spindle bearing? Any help would be greatly apriciated.
I dont think its the brake caliper because it still knocks with the brakes on at speed and i'll have to check the balljoints in the morning. I just find it strange that it only knocks at 54mph +. thanks for the replys.
Could be ball joints, wheel bearings, spindle bearings, tie rods, loose hub cap, spring bushings, brakes, I would start at the ball joints, then lay under the truck with good light and have someone steer back and forth on the wheel while you arelooking at the front end and look for anything moving, look at ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm, bearing hubs, u joints, spring bushings, if it looks like something is loose put your hand on it and feel for movement with wheel being jerked back and forth.

Unlikely its the calipers as the it still makes the noise when the brakes are applied. Under a hard braking condition yea would prevent any noise. Severely worn/soft retainers though under light braking condition can and will bang/knock, if the rotor/s suffer runout distance that translate onto caliper/s positioning. May or may not feel some pedal pulse because of it.
Might prove easier help narrow down the problem if helpers here could hear it too, if could post video with sound while its happening.
Has to be something unloaded or at least partially unloaded at speed.
