Good night, Dave. Oh, sorry, you probably aren't old enough to remember Cronkite. Anyway, good luck on your projects and let us know how they go. And, btw, w/o pictures they didn't happen.

I have a 1984 F150 with 351W engine that I recently "durasparked", so I just checked the feedback carb that was removed because, in my case, I haven't thrown it away ..Yet. That carb is marked 1.08. hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure that the carb. I replaced it with was larger but don't remember off-hand. Next time I have the hood up on the '84 i'll have to check.

So that's what that stamp means - 1.21" venturi. Here's a shot of the stamp on the 2150 that I'm sure was original on Dad's '81 351M:

And, I realized that I had bits of the old exhaust system that I took off the '82 351W as well as the ends of the tail pipes from what I put back on. Looks like stock was 2 1/4" and that's what went back on, both exhaust awa tail pipes.

I made a little progress today..changed the valve cover gaskets, removed that air pipe in the back row, w the 5/8" plugs, and completely removed the EGR plumbing since I made me a block-off plate yesterday. I was going to attempt to start it up w/o messing with the carb but I decided to take it off 2day. I'm glad I did..a fire hazard for sure. I knew it probably wouild be but I was hoping ot put off messing wiht it till i first fired up the new diz. I've done this before and to get one running with a new IGN system AND messing wiht a carb rebuild adds an extra element of drama sometimes..but This had to be done.

will elt you know this PO had this PU for about 15 years as the second owner, and it was only started ocassioanally in the last 10 years..

When I bought it it was under the understanding we could start it, and it could be driven under it's own power w/o making dramatic gear clunking sounds and was hitting on all 8 which it did.. But had it towed home 5 miles to my carport..not knowing the condition of the fuel system..and whether it would keep running well enuf to get it home.(he said it died on him sometimes). The PO paid for the tow to my place.. I would've cleaned the engine bay b4 taking it apart but it wasn't practical since it didn't run extra well...so it went into my carport in as DSIII, and will leave DSII, a Ford BETTER IDEA...

It is a dirty messy project as expected to bring it up to speed..but I feel encouraged about the prospects. I'll try to add some pics from the work 2day so it can be monitored by the forum if that is any interest.

I have 1.14 Venturi 2100 core that is good, and also a 1.21 core 2100. I think only one of them has the manual shift throttle shaft (no kick-down lever) ..but that really doesn't matter as longs as it's the best Venturi for the job...

This rig had an engine change with a new reman about 80K ago, ( not sure why ) and the valve train looks surprisingly clean I must say...just leaked a lot of oil thru those cork gaskets..and made a real mess...

compression is 185-192 or so and it has the E6 heads.

appreciate the tailpipe size info as well...that next weeks project...

I have another question..I have been using Rotella T 15-40 in all my rigs since they change the ZDDP aditive content..Since these are flat tappet cam...etc what oils do most here run for this purpose..or is it felt to be on overstated issue?...

I DO like the way the Rotella keeps and engine clean and i change it when i can't see "thru it"....

again wish everyone a good day..and thanks for the input....here are some pictures.

I think it is an overstated issue. I broke the engine I built in on Rotella T with a good dose of Comp Cams break-in lube, but told the new owner to change to whatever oil he wanted when the time came.

Everything I've read from people who should know says any of today's oils will be fine after breakin, but I use Mobil Syn 10W-30.
