Is '82 Duraspark Compatible with '86
Can one of the pros comment on the year change from Duraspark to Duraspark II, relative to trucks ?
Or
Is 82 Duraspark compatible with an 86 HO 351 4V ?
...remember, the 86 HO 351 4V is a non computer-ized vehical.
That said, what say the pros on a Friday night ?!
As always, thanks in advance for the info and XXXcellent conversation !!!

Duraspark II was used from 1976 right up until 1987 when carburetors where being phased out. HOWEVER, some early 1980s California model F150s used a computer-controlled Duraspark III system. and for model years 1984 - 1986, most carbureted models used the EEC-IV engine computer to control a "feedback" carburetor and TFI ignition.
The carbureted 351 H.O. model was never computerized, so all of them used the Duraspark II ignition.
The Duraspark II ignition system was unchanged from 1980 - 1987. So yes, the 1982 Duraspark II would be the same for a 1986 351 H.O. that also used Duraspark II. The only minor difference has to do with the Duraspark wire harness. If the vehicle had a tachometer, there would be an additional plug in the wire harness for it. The I-6 model harness with a tach will have an extra plug with a single wire, while the V-8 model harness would have the same plug but with a ground wire so the tachometer will read correctly.
The Duraspark II can be identified by the blue tab on the ignition module and the larger "high energy" distributor cap. Even AMC vehicles used the Motorcraft Duraspark ignition through the 1980s.
..they say there are no dumb questions, I will say this one was close !
You know I just read the same info in this bitchen thread at the top of our forum:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-projects.html
Good stuff in there

.....if all else fails, read instructions

,
I was unsure about what truck had what, and what exactly my truck had.
That whole non-computer in the middle of a computer era can sure make you second guess everything :P
Thanks for the info !
