I was looking at the front of my 5.8 in my 90 bronco yesterday and it looks like if you simply remove the pump and use a shorter belt that's all you'd need to do.

Ok, did some reading. Some years allegedly have different belt routing and the exact belt length you need is unavailable. Others have reported issues with belt flap and jumping off due to the longer span between pullies without the pump.

This, Proform Smog Pump Eliminator Bracket (68110) appears to be the solution. You may need a shorter belt.

Also it seems that if you have a tensioner on top between the alternator and A/C you're fine to just delete the pump and run a shorter belt. If you have the tensioner on the side between the alternator and smog pump you need the eliminator.

If you use an alternate belt routing, you can do without an eliminator with the side mount tensioner.
