I have mac, snap on, proto, and craftsman torque wrenches. Sure I love the MAC and snap on but have to admit the craftsman and proto do the job just as well. I have checked them against each other a few times and all are very accurate.
I wouldn't get the 1/4", I would go with the 3/8" Inch pound and then just use a socket reducer if you need to use the 1/4 sockets. I have yet to see a bolt that had a lower toque value than what the 3/8" could do.

I'd agree with the BOLD text 100%. You'll be able to get the job done but have a bit more versatility since the 3/8" drive will likely have a larger range of usability.
I scored a SnapOn 1/2" drive 250ft-lbs torque wrench that had been freshly recalibrated for $80 off CL. Might try your luck there too.
