Cam Time

My dad and I are starting to gather parts for his 410 build. According to this site the compression ratio is going to be 9.47:1.

This motor is going to be used mainly for towing. Lots of torque is good. He never revs his motors over 4500 RPM.

What cam would you all suggest we run. Comp? Crane? Lunati? Elgin? Other?

CamQuest (Comp Cams) recommends the XE256H. The specs are HERE.

My brother runs an Elgin cam in his 390. SPECS

It looks like the two are identical (within 1 horsepower/ft. lbs).

Does anybody else have any other suggestions?

I'd call Scotty at Re-inCARnation and for a "custom" grind for your specific application. "Shelf" cam grinds are a compromise at best.

Just remember an fyi, dynos per the mfg's have a variance of up to 5% and unless you have the full environmental conditions (temp, humidity, engine exhaust gas temp, air feed and exhaust parts, etc) that can affect the hp/tq as well........but it will give you an idead of what you can expect.

Used to be the Crane 343901 or Crane 343941 for the F.E. in my neighborhood...

As mentioned earlier, Crane has changed hands and I haven't built one for many years now... That aside, I have one in my 390 and my buddy has one in his 410 and loves it, and I don't complain either...

I have heard that desktop dyno is a bit of a pain to use. Is that true? I would appreciate it if you could run the Elgin E-966-P if it isn't to much of a hassle.

I've seen this same question come up on other forums and everyone suggests custom grinds.
