The TPS can cause a lot of problems. There are three positions for the TPS.
When the engine is started the computer take a reading from the TPS and takes this reading as CT or closed throttle. This reading should be about 0.9 VDC but can be from about 0.6 to 1.0 VDC.
That is why you should not touch the throttle while starting the engine unless it is flooded then you need to hold the throttle at WOT to turn off the injectors while cranking.
See this link for more information on the TPS: Fuel Injection Technical Library » Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
WOT should be around 4.5 VDC and the computer does the math for mid throttle.
The TP signal to the computer should go through these reading from closed throttle to WOT with a smooth non jerky swing of the needle of an analog vom. You can read the voltages with a DVM but it can not test the TPS as well.
Note at closed throttle the plates are not 100% closed in the throttle body, if they were that would be under travel.
I do not know what you were looking at Summit but any auto part store should be able to sell you a TPS.
Thanks for the info Subford.. The summit link was for different TPS's. There is 1 that looks like a housing you screw down and then plug in and the other has wires connecting 2 housings together that seem to plug in on 1 end and screw down on the other.
edit....
Subford.. In the link you sent it shows multiple TPS's. That is what my question was about. Which would I need?
I picked up the TPS and ICM today and started working on the truck. I installed the new cap and rotor and coil. while I was in there I started looking for the TPS and ICM locations... I couldn't find them...
Is the TPS located on the bottom of the throttle body? ...and if so, does the throttle body need to be removed to install it?
I did not see the ICM on the distributor... i'm guessing I have the remote mount... What is the location of the remote ICM?
EDIT....
I think I found the TPS. It looks like it is in fact on the bottom of my throttle body and it does look like the throttle body will have to be removed in order to replace it. I also have code 212 in c memory... and.... i found a broken plastic hose on the left rear of the engine bay. It is a red hose... Could this be what is causing me to stall while driving?
The code 212 means you have the wrong Gray ICM on the truck most of time.
You need to replace it with a Black one.
Note that the Parts stores will try to sell you a gray one and tell you that is what it takes. They are wrong.
Will post photo of the ICM location in a minute.
Thanks again subford. it was right in front of me the whole time. i looked right at it earlier and didn't realize that was it.. there is a gray 1 installed right now.. gonna switch it with the black 1 i have.
The red vacuum lines all go to the a Main Vacuum Port on the upper intake for a vacuum source.
The attached image below shows most of the red vacuum lines for your truck.
I say most as there is a "T" off not shown that goes to the Vent system reservoir on the side of the A/C box and to the Vent control inside.
The attached image below should be the same as the one under the hood of your truck.
that red hose is connected to a "T" altho... the broken section goes down and looks like behind the engine.
On a side note... I got the module off.. well off of the side of the truck. Is there a special tool needed to get the module off of the housing? nothing i have fits.
Thanks for all your help Subford. Finally got the truck finished. Well the ICM replaced. Runs like a champ again. Still have the broken plastic line but its up and running and throwing no codes at all.
