Mornin' my trans is the cruiseomatic and it has no kickdown rod on it nor any lines for cooling. I'm assuming the lines on the side of the "box" on the right hook to the heater lines in some way. True? And how does the kickdown hook up and work? Thanks in advance for any help. John
The COM has ...or should have a huge splice in the lower radiator hose with a nipple for a heater hose to attach to...this is one of the lines for the trans cooler which is bolted on the RH side of the trans. There are other lines along the block which help complete the plumbing for this setup. Are you in need of any or all of these lines ?? Im assuming you are working on a 352 engine...
As for the kickdown, its a rod that connects from the carb down to a lever on the LH side of the trans near where the gear shift linkage attaches.
The heater hoses on the RH apron are for just that...heater and only the heater.
is the kickdown lever still there, at least? if so, you can buy a cable kickdown kit from Lokar. its not cheap, but it does the job nicely. you'll probably have trouble finding an original solid kickdown rod.
as for the cooling lines- on my FE Galaxie, if i remember correctly, the forward port is the pressure line, and goes to the trans cooler on the bottom of the radiator. the rear port is the return line. unsure if trucks had the same system, but i imagine its similar.
+2 on the Loker kickdown lever!, I serched several different yards looking for a kickdown
lever and found that ford made several different lengths and bends depending on the car/truck, so went with a Loker! simple to install and works GREAT!!!!
Thanks for the replies, not sure exactly where it hooks up. Lots of stuff missing on this truck. And yes it is a 352 with edelbrock carb and intake. Will probably have to go with Lokar but need to see where things hook on the trans and the carb. Doesn't have the piece I need on the lower rad hose so will have to rig something there also. Glad to get an idea on this anyway. John
When I got my truck, it was missing the kickdown... Someone had installed a C6 transmission and never completed the job. I used the Lokar cable- It was super easy to install, and works perfectly. Highly recommended!
