Is it worth is?

I'm getting my dads old 04 F250 XLT 5.4 gas short bed auto 150k, I wanted to know before i start dumping money into lifting it if the engine or anything serious will go on it as my friends told me that since it has so many miles that "they bet" the engine will blow soon....altho my fords never failed me He bought it new in 03 so it wasn't beat on. It already has a long list of new parts on it. Ignition coils, transmission solenoid, replaced, that were shot and put in WARN front hubs, complete front end about 30k ago, alternator, driveshaft bearing? something like that. I'm definitely missing some other major things, that was just the recent stuff i can remember. All the work was done by ford and oil was changed regularly between 3k and 5k miles. Transmissions shifts like new, no slipping or anything like that. I just wanted to get some other peoples perspective on this. Let me know i appreciate it, Thanks Harry

what size ties you gonna put on it and what's your gear ratio? Guess you can look at it this way, lift it and enjoy it, a new engine is cheaper than a new rig...

Sounds like you have pretty stupid friends. Don't be stupid like them. If it has been maintained you have more then likely MANY more miles in that truck. Lift it, re-gear it and enjoy it. Having no payments is an awesome thing. Believe me.

150,000 miles is not that many on a 5.4.

I have a 2000 F250 XLT with a 5.4, it has 242,000 miles on it and never had an issue ith the engine, it is a great engine.

I didn't even take very good care of it and it still runs like a champ.

IMO the older Superduty trucks like my 2000 F250 XLT 2WD was built better than my 2012 Lariat 4WD.

When I start the new truck I get noises from the engine for a few seconds that I don't get from my old truck, even though it has 35x more miles on it.

Sounds like a well maintained truck to me, I would have no worries about it. A well maintained 5.4 is usually good for 300K+ miles. We have a bunch of them at my work with over 200K on them and a few with over 300K, and these still get driven every day. We have even had a few go over 400K.

Your friends must be stuck in the 70s because 150K miles is really no big deal for most vehicles built in the last 20 years or so. There's a reason most vehicles switched from 5 digit to 6 digit odometers around the late 80s/early 90s. 100K miles used to be the end of the line for many vehicles, but now they are just getting broke in at 100K.

My mid-200K 5.4 just called your 150K truck a "young whippersnapper"
