Sidewinder Boost

What are you guys seeing for boost numbers on the sidewinder turbos? I'm only getting about 8 psi at 2500 rpm, and that's with the wastegate disconnected. I've got a brand new sidewinder (TE06H) turbo but the mounts and exhaust piping is custom. 2 1/2" up pipe coming off the stock manifolds and Y-pipe and a 3" downpipe opening to 3 1/2 straight pipe back. I've got the fuel turned up 1 1/2 - 2 flats I think, can't remember for sure. Is this normal performance for this turbo?

Yes... To get real boost... Crank the pump all the way up...

Ah, ok. I'm hesitant to turn it up too much more as all the turbo instructions I've seen said to use 1- 1 1/2 flat. I guess I'm not getting much black smoke and egts are decent at full load though, so you're probably right.

What can you get out of that turbo and a stock pump? I don't want to go much above 10-12, just curious. I do have head studs, but no intercooler yet and still stock compression. I'm more interested in lower rpm torque than raw power anyway.

NMB2 ran 23+ psi with studs, a DPS Turbo cal pump (my current pump), no intercooler, and stock compression for 12,000 miles... it was still running when he tore his setup apart to build his new engine...

If you have studs you will be absolutely fine to turn your N/A pump all the way up...

if you turn your pump up more than 3 flats pay very close attention the the exhaust temps. you do not want to go over 1100 degrees, or you will cause internal engine damage.

seems to depend on the condition of the ip too.they likely get tired and need to be turned up as they age.so id go by the pyro more than the turns of an Allen wrench.
the number of Allen wrench turns isn't exactly a universal setting.the banks instructions are just to help the novice get a (hopefully) close ballpark setting is all.

I see 10 psi boost @ 2200 rpm regularly from my sidewinder with a stock reman turbo pump which I have not turned up at all. I bought the truck with the kit installed, with the banks boost and pyro gauges and have no other mods. Are you sure you are not leaking anywhere?

10-11 PSI @ WOT at sea level w/factory (non turbo) IP adjusted 6 flats from max and wategate adjusted.

It only made 3-5 PSI when I got the truck from my mom with the settings still as they were when she had the Banks kit installed back in 95/96.

Factory engine with 125K miles and no other mods.

Interesting. So it looks like I'm not too far out of line. I see ~1000* on the pyro preturbo full load. Maybe I'll try turning it up a bit more later?

Yeah, thats not right...

I have an efficient setup, I cruise at 480-520* on flat ground @60-70mph... I see about 750* going up the hill by my house (fairly steep) in 3rd gear.... Ive seen a peak 1050 with my trailer on heading up another hill near my house, and thats the highest Ive seen it... If you dont see more than 600* on a stock type setup @ 13psi your Pyro is off...

For one, hook you wastegate back up, it is hell for a wastegated turbo NOT to have a wastegate. It will over spool and wear out way sooner than it should(ask me how I know).

I want to see pictures of your piping before I comment on your boost.
